Citizen Award and Scholarship to be presented by Downtown Business
Association
In 2000, the Downtown Business
Association will award a $500 scholarship to a young citizen of
Walpole who has shown leadership potential and a commitment to
community service in ways that often go unnoticed. Any resident of Walpole,
currently in grades six through eight may be considered for this
award. Students may attend schools located outside of Walpole.
It is expected that the award will encourages the recipient to continue
to contribute to his/her community in meaningful ways during high
school years an will support continued education on the post secondary
level.

Nomination
Process
Nominations may be made by any adult (other
than a parent or other relative) who knows the student well and has observed
them contributing to their community through their school, religious community,
youth organization, or other community service, projects. The
DBA is looking for candidates who are not ordinarily recognized for
their efforts or their contributions. A young person who has
demonstrated perseverance or overcome challenges to provide a positive
contribution to our community would be a possible choice. Al letter
of recommendation and identification of the name and telephone number
of the nominator, the name and address of the nominee, and the length
of time the nominator has known the nominee, may be submitted to DBA,
P.O. Box 643. Walpole, MA 02081.

Application
Process & Deadlines
After being nominated, a student will
receive a short application in the mail. The student must
complete the application and return it to the DBA, P.O. Box 643.
Walpole, MA 02081 by May 15, 2000. An additional letter of recommendation
is required to be sent to the same address by May 15, 2000

Award
The young Citizen Award and Scholarship
will be awarded by the DBA in early June. Selection will be made
by a subcommittee of the DBA. DBA members with eligible children
in their family will not server on the subcommittee. The
recipient will have the choice of investing the scholarship awarded in
either a savings bond or an Educational IRA. The amount of the initial
investment will be $500.00
