The Week – Mar. 15
The Year – 2004
Snow and Sports
The calendar may suggest that spring is a few days
away. But, as the snow begins to fall, we know that our snow shovels and
gloves and scrapers need to be ready for use.
Indeed, as we look ahead to opening day and the start of
the baseball season, our winter refuses to slide gracefully away.
Snow is on the agenda for this week and who knows how
long.
Walpole Sports and More…
Capturing the division 2 state title for the sixth time,
the Walpole girls basketball team combined with the boys basketball team
to bring a little hysteria to the town on Sunday night, returning from
the Fleet center with the two state titles.
It looks as if the signs on the common across from the
Post office will have to be enlarged to accommodate two more title wins
from this years spring sports.
Congratulations to the two teams and their coaches and
supporters.
Certainly, the success of the two teams should continue
the long tradition of high achievement in youth sports in this town.
Town Politics
With all the weather concerns and the sports issues, town
politics has yet to warm up. Our annual town election will be held on
the first Saturday in June.
Folks are gathering signatures to have their name on the
ballot for town wide offices or RTM’s.
Be a participant in the process of town government. The
spring town meeting in May will analyze and consider and vote on the
budget for the year.
Let your RTM know your position for a full and active
debate. |
