The Oxymoron of the Year

The DNC

In the year 2004, democrats from all over this country have gathered at the Fleet Center in the city of Boston to celebrate their nomination of Senator John Kerry as a contender for president of this nation.

How often have you have heard this convention referred to as the ‘democratic national convention’?

There is no such thing. The DNC is the democrat national convention.

What’s happening here?

1. Traffic and security issues have literally shut down the entire city from ordinary people entering and enjoying life.

2. The raison d’etre for the convention itself has been stolen from the delegates. There is no doubt as to the final outcome. There is no balloting of any meaning. This is a rally of immense proportions designed to electrify the voters to follow the lead of the anointed – Kerry and Edwards.

3. The question might be this. Who will gain more headlines? The TV anchors or the politicians?

4. Now, for the trivia question of the day. Over the last 52 years, there have been 4 vice-presidents who have become president. Who were they?

5. …. Time is up. Remember LBJ, Nixon, Ford, and George Walker Bush.

6. On the other hand, who remembers Estes Kefauver, Spiro Agnew, Walter Mondale, Dan Quayle, and Al Gore?

7. The lesson for John Edwards is the following. Is the future in your hands or not?

As the week draws to an end, ask yourselves whether this whole week was worth the trauma and grief so many ordinary people endured.
