Unsolved Homicides
We believe
that it is in the interest of our community and the survivors of a
horrific crime to continue to work toward a judicial solution.
Unsolved
homicides need never be ignored as too difficult too solve.
The Norfolk
County District Attorney recognizes this and has a unit referred
to as the ‘cold case unit’ – employing assistance from the state
police as necessary.
The
community itself can be of enormous help also. All of us are part
of the total solution to any problem in the community.
Let’s look
at one case in particular that is receiving a fresh approach to
the investigation.
We turn the
calendar back to July 11, 1996.
Here are the
salient facts and the puzzle that emerges.
1.
A young woman, Marci Fusillo Martini, is found unconscious
in her bedroom in her condominium at Teal Circle in Walpole. Her
boyfriend arrived home after working late and made the discovery.
2.
The boyfriend called the police who arrived and had the
woman taken away and began an informal inquiry into the
circumstances surrounding the situation.
3.
Marci was suspected to have died of an overdose. Hours
later the Medical Examiner declared in his analysis that she had
died of a trauma to the neck.
4.
Thereupon, on Friday, July 12, 1996 an aggressive
investigation ensued – with state and local police and
investigators from the District attorney’s Office in
collaboration.
5.
No suspects were ever charged with a crime.
6.
The case has remained a puzzle to this day – nearly six
years later.
7.
The family of Marci Fusillo continues to mourn their
daughter – striving to uncover information that could help to
solve this mystery.
8.
The question of how this young woman died remains.
We in our
community may search our memory and notes and try to remember
anything that could help fit the pieces of the puzzle together.
The cold
case unit has begun its effort to review and analyze all the data
that has accumulated. The authorities are working diligently.
If anyone
has any piece of data that may connect with the story of July 11,
1996, please contact the Walpole Police.
