Newsbreak for Walpole
Week of Aug. 19
The Year 2002
Politics and
more …
With the oppressive heat subsiding and the weeks of summer
drifting away, we look ahead to the events of the fall.
Politics will be a major factor in our daily life.
Let’s look ahead.
1. The statewide primary election will be held on Tuesday,
September 17th, the week after our first anniversary of September
11th. It is quiet thus far with little advertising and campaigning
at the local level. However, remember that we have been
redistricted to the extent that there are now four sections of
Walpole represented in the state house. And, each of the state
representatives comes from a larger home district. Thus, no
Walpole resident figures prominently in the primaries.
2. In October, Walpole has its town meeting that features warrant
articles focused on planning and zoning issues. The selectmen will
be reviewing the warrant beginning this week.
3. And, in a surprise development, Selectmen Alan Rockwood
announced that he would step down as chairman of the board
effective at this week’s meeting. Rockwood will remain as a member
of the board.
And, we remind students and parents about the beginning of school.
The first day is Sept. 4th.
Be sure that your summer reading program is completed in these
next two weeks.
