Winter
Has arrived …
Indeed the blast of cold air and the swirling snow of the past
week have awakened us to the reality of winter. As hot as it was
in July, it is now at the other end of the temperature scale.
Keep the
shovels handy; make sure your gloves are at the ready. We are
facing two or more months of this frigid weather.
The Board of Selectmen
As reported,
there will be a special election in February to elect an
individual to fill the unexpired term of the late John Hill.
The board
voted recently to hold the election. Now, we wait to hear the
actual date and the timing for candidates to take out nomination
papers and begin the campaign.
Some have
argued that the election is not necessary. That is, we should just
wait for a few months and fill the vacancy at the annual election
in June.
Others argue
that there needs to be a full board membership for complete
discussion of the issues and to ensure quorums and legal votes on
certain topics.
Candidates
will be stepping forward shortly.
Participate
in this process by thinking carefully about the profile of a
selectman you feel best fits the needs of our town.
Holiday shopping..
With
Thanksgiving coming so late in November, the shopping season for
customers and retail store is shortened by a week.
The nasty
weather might play a role in the shopping rhythms for many.
Please avoid
the last minute rush and stress.
Enjoy the
end of the year and be safe.
