The Big Game in Foxboro
Once again, the professional sport scene dominates the
local news for the start of January 2004.
The New England Patriots are contending for the
championship of the NFL once more. This Saturday, Jan. 10, at Gillette
Stadium in Foxboro, the Patriots will play the Tennessee Titans for the
opportunity to contend for the conference title the next week.
For the first time in the history of this sports
franchise, the team is a favorite to continue on to the championship
game in February.
What does this mean for the folks who do not live and
breathe football?
-
Traffic will be a consideration from late Saturday afternoon on for
motorists on Route 1.
-
Crossing Route 1 at the Walpole/Sharon line will be difficult in
late afternoon.
-
With
the game starting late Saturday night, traffic returning after the
game should not pose problems for others.
Local Budgets
The early days of January signal the rush of work to be
done on preparing the budget for the next fiscal year. Although revenue
projections for the state are optimistic, it is too early to estimate
how state reimbursements may increase.
Elections
2004 signals a presidential election year. With the
primary election in New Hampshire coming up, there will be a lot of
media attention on the democratic contenders.
Weather
Colder temperatures are coming. Our respite from the
wintry days of early December is over. |
