The Year
2002
The Fourth of July
It never
matters on which day of the week that the 4th of July
happens to fall, it is always the July fourth week.
Many folks
take their annual vacation at this time and many folks begin their
summer long plans at this time.
As with many
towns, Walpole has a long tradition celebrating Independence Day
with a whole host of events for people of all ages.
Let’s remind
ourselves of what takes place.
1.
A parade of fire engines and trucks begins in East Walpole
at 6 pm. This terrific parade goes down Washington Street to East
Street and ends up behind the town hall on School Street.
2.
At around 6:30 pm, there will be a concert, sponsored by
the DBA, to continue the festive environment.
3.
Everything then will be milling around and enjoying the
food and drinks sold in the area behind the fire station.
4.
But, the crowd then grows and swells to overflowing as
people head for the area behind Town hall to prepare for the great
fireworks display.
5.
At roughly 9:30 pm, the finale to the night before the
fourth begins with a huge fireworks display.
So, we urge
one and all to stay home on Thursday and relax and celebrate the
fourth of July right here in our hometown of Walpole.
