The Week – June 9

The Year – 2003

Town Election Results

Voters trudged to the polling places last Saturday to register their choices for candidates running for office.

This was a very quiet campaign and an equally quiet election.

The weather Saturday was typical of our spring this year – heavy rain and soaked people.

Results

The first observation is that the quiet nature of the campaign resulted in a very low turnout – about 15% of the registered voters came to the polls.

Was the turnout also influenced by the weather? We hope not.

Any and every election is important and voters need always to participate in order that the town benefits from diverse voices involved in the process.

Regarding the race for two seats on the Board of selectmen, Alan Rockwood returned to the board while newcomer Cathy Winston won a seat – displacing incumbent Judy Conroy.

Thus, there will be continuity and change on the Board.

……….

Traffic

The work on route 27 heading to route 1 continues and folks would be encouraged to seek alternate routes out to the highway.

The construction for the opening of the new supermarket at Palumbo’s Plaza also continues.

The traffic issues will only increase of the next few months.
