Congratulations!!

Continuing a tradition of excellence in sports at Walpole High School, the girl’s basketball team is now the EMASS division II champions for the year 2002. They will compete now at the Worcester Centrum for the statewide title.

We congratulate the team and all their supporters and wish them well in their final game of this season in pursuit of the championship.

When is ‘yes’ no and when is ‘No’ yes?

The special election set for March 16 is fast upon us. It will take place this Saturday. The two polling places, Fisher School and the High School, will be open from 8 am to 8 pm.

We would like to remind everyone that the voting places have changed from other years. Voters in precincts 1 – 5 will go to the High School and voters in precincts 6 - 8 will go to the Fisher School.

Also, there is a new precinct, 8, and the changes result in some folks who were in precinct 5 now being in precinct 6.

So, check carefully this Saturday in order that to be sure that you will go to the right place to vote.

Let’s look at the question before the voters. To recall or not is the question. Here is the sequence.

1.              There will be four separate ballot questions. Each question is the same for each. Do you wish to recall a selectmen – and the name of that selectman follows.

2.              Remember that a ‘yes’ vote does indeed mean you wish to recall that selectman.

3.              Remember that a ‘no’ vote means that you wish that selectman to remain in office.

This election is a critical one for our town.

Our leadership is under scrutiny and the voters have the opportunity to affirm or deny this leadership.

The ideal will be that each and every registered voter goes to his or her respective polling place and votes.

Think clearly and carefully and participate in this scrutiny and analysis.
