The Week – Nov. 11

The Year – 2002

          New Mode of Shopping

The new Stop and Shop superstore has opened. It is an innovation in the delivery of products to those looking to stock their kitchen and home. Yes, in one building, there are: food items, pharmaceutical items, stationery products, toys, delicatessen items, a full service bank, and more.

But, for the shopper looking for a loaf of bread, a pound of coffee, and a few cans of soup and tuna, be prepared for a longer visit than usual. The parking is ample and the aisles are long.

          Board of Selectmen

The untimely passing of selectman John Hill has caused a small problem for the board. First, the board will select a new chairman to take over the leadership of the group.

Then, the board needs to consider the possibility of a special election to bring the board back up to full membership.

Also, the selectmen will begin a long process of discussion on the proposal to consider changing the responsibilities assigned to the Town Administrator and the relationship of the Town Administrator to the board itself.

This discussion might lead to a proposal to review the town charter.

What are your thoughts on this matter? Is our form of town government as effective as it might be?

Should the TA be given wider scope and responsibility?

Let the leadership in town know your thoughts. Drop by the town hall. Write to the selectmen.
