The Arrival of the Holiday Season
From Washington to Lincoln to the current day, the celebration of
Thanksgiving has been a continuous and longstanding tradition in
our country.
Today,
Thanksgiving is a holiday assigned to the fourth Thursday in
November.
And, the
next day begins the hectic holiday shopping interval that runs
through the month of December.
Holiday
lights and decorations and lights are appearing in homes and
public buildings.
Parking and More
The long
awaited municipal parking lot off Glenwood Avenue is nearing
completion.
A part of
the project has been to improve the sidewalks and walking areas
near the Fleet bank and the section of that road from Main Street
to East Street.
In time for
the holidays, shoppers should find more space to park and walk to
their destination.
Special Election
The board of
selectmen voted last week to hold a special election to fill the
vacancy caused by the untimely death of John Hill.
What now
remains is to fix a date and to publicize the process so that
candidates may circulate nomination papers to be on the ballot.
The election will most likely be held in February.
