The Week – Oct. 28

The Fragility of Life

On the national scene and here in Walpole, we have seen the clear examples of why tomorrow is never a guarantee.

Last Wednesday, after participating in the town meeting, John Hill, chair of the Board of Selectmen died suddenly of heart complications.

In Minnesota, Senator Paul Wellstone, campaigning for his third term as a US Senator, died in an airplane accident.

Two vigorous and highly respected political leaders were stricken in the course of their daily activities.

Here in Walpole, we grieve for the loss of a fine individual who committed his energy and skills to the service of the town.

John Hill epitomized the profile of volunteer service for the common good. His love of life and family and community are testimony to the good that exists in this town.

We will miss his warm smile and strength of purpose.

Halloween

Are you going in costume this Thursday?

Enjoy the day and the night and stock up on all your favorite treats for the little ones trudging up to your door.
