The Week – Sept. 30

The Year – 2002

Our State Election

          The race for Governor ….

1.             Who is running?

The main debate these days is between Mitt Romney and Shannon O’Brien. However, there are five candidates who will be on the ballot when voters select the next governor of the Commonwealth.

The question is why the media refuse to recognize this fact.

2.             Why are the debates held for just 2 candidates?

It might appear that the media hold debates for the two candidates representing the two parties as a means of continuing this ‘two party’ system. Yet, many issues relative to taxation and the environment come out of the positions raised by candidates from the Independent or Green or Libertarian parties.

3.             How do people decide on their choice?

How do you, as a voter, decide on the candidate when the debates screen out the other candidates. Should we only vote for a republican or democrat?

Do folks rely on a party affiliation in order to satisfy their choice? Do folks look to the strength and integrity of candidate, regardless of which of the five parties in existence?

4.             Is it fair not to vote?

What of the concern that some folks have that none of the candidates is deserving of a vote? Should people just stay home? What are the possibilities?

5.             Are write in candidates a lost vote?

One can always in any election write in a candidate not on the ballot.

6.             What about the lesser of two evils concept?

The answer here is to always find the right and best candidate, not compromising for the sake of voting itself.

In any event, do not sit idly by and watch others select the person to govern our state for the next four years.
