Tragedy and the Lives of Two Young Girls

Last week, the lives of two young girls were completely changed in the space of a few minutes.

One young girl from Norwood lost her life as she walked to school last Friday morning.

A young girl in Sharon celebrated her 16th birthday last Thursday. Shortly after the celebration, her father drove away, suffered a heart attack, and died.

The grief and mourning that has engulfed these two families is beyond our imagination and ability to reconcile.

Life is so precious. The unpredictable events that occur in life can alter the whole sweep of what should be and turn everything we have into a different story all together.

This week, a family in Norwood will be at the cemetery burying their daughter. She would be enjoying the fall days at high school and looking forward to the excitement of school and sports.

This week, in Sharon, a family gathered at a cemetery to bury a man in the prime of his life. His daughter was so proud to be his ‘little girl’.

Could the tragic circumstances underlying each of these events have been changed?

Could the results have been avoided?

We cannot ever change what happened.

We can merely recognize the fragile nature of our existence and cherish each day knowing that somehow we have escaped the possible set of circumstances that could alter our life forever.
